By Telegraph—Press Association. EXTENSION OF WELLINGTON HOSPITAL. WELLINGTON, November 19. The Wellington Hospital Trustees have adopted a recommendation to, the effect that competitive architectural designs for improvement to the general hospital building be invited, the scheme to embrace an extension capable of providing double the accommodation at present afforded, but arranged so that sections of improvements can be made from time to time till the whole design is completed. 1 APPOINTMENTS. NAPIER, November 19. The. hospital trustees have appointed Dr. W. W. Moore, of Nelson, senior resident surgeon, and Dr. Seymour Brett, of Gisborne, junior surgeon. The Education Board received nineteen applications for the position of director of the Technical School, and selected Mr Harold Robjohns, late of Cheltenham, England, but now a resident of Gisborne.
NEW ZEALAND SHIPPING COMPANY. ANNUAL MEETING. CHRISTCHURCH, November 19. The annual ineeting of the New Zealand Shipping Company was held to-day. The balance-sheet showed that the net profit for the year's work, after deducting depreciation and all charges, had been £42,143. The balance brought forward from the previous year was £15,751, making the total £55,894. The proposed dividend of 5 per cent, would absorb £23,692; balance to interest account £21,442, carried forward £10,760. The company's fleet was valued at £974,497. Investments amounted to £83,941, land, buildings and plant to £44,369. There was a fleet of sixteen steamers of a total tonnage of 104,383*t0n5. > RAILWAY CLASSIFICATION BILL. WANGANUI; November 14. At> a meeting of the Wanganui branch of the Railway Officers Institute last night, a strong expression of opinion was made at the action of certain officers of the head office in wiring to ju-iiors urging thev.i to accept the Railway Classification Bill in its present form. A resolution was carried instructing the secretary to at once wire to the executive, assuring them of continued support and loyalty,
CONCILIATION BOARD. FARM LABOURERS' DISPUTE. CHRISTCHURCH, November 19. The hearing of the farm labourers dispute by the Conciliaton Board was continued to-day. A witness, named E. Kennedy, tna of the organisers of the Farm Labourers' Unions, was examined and re-examined throughout the whole ol the day, his evidence relating in the main to the inferior accommodation provided for farm labourers, The hearing wiii be contiilU©d tomorrow. ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES. GISJJORNE, November 19. John Canon Shepherd was mustering sheep at Mangatokerau station, Tolaga Bay, yesterday, when his horse fell on a steep face, rolling down about eight chains, and was killed. The rider'was thrown clear, and rolled a distance of about two chains. His spine was severely injured, and his recovery is doubtful. DUNEDIN, November 19. Mrs W. Davidson was killed yesterday while driving in a single buggy from Glenorchy to Arrowtown, owing to the horse bolting and throwing her out. A child who was also in the trap escaped unhurt, AUCKLAND, November 19. Chas. Wise, a son of F. W. Wisp, of Auckland, while cleaning a chimney at Waimehia, fell to the ground and broke his neck. Dr. Crdig stated that Wise died of heart disease —died bafoie falling. The decrased was 31 years of age, and had been in tbe railway service for six months.
THE TRAINING SHIP AMOKURA. CRUISE TO STEWART ISLAND. WELLINGTON, November 19. The training ship Amokura will leave Wellington about the end of the month on another cruise. This time the gunboat will proceed as far south as Stewart Island, and will on her way up again call at the Bluff. During her absence calls will also be made at Port Chalmers and Lyttelton. This is to afford the boy& an opportunity of competing at the regattas at these ports on Boxing Day and New Year's Day, respectively. FIRE IN CHRISTCHURCH. COACH FACTORY DESTROYED. CHRISTCHURCH, November 19. A coach-builders' factory, owned by James Brown, and situated in St. Asaph Street East, was totally destroyed by fire to-night. The stock, which was valued at £I,OOO, was insured with the Royal Insurance Company.
