Large Sydney are retailing at 13s 6d to 14s; Melbourne, 12s 6d.to 13s. New Zealand frozen mutton—Canterbury, light, 4d; medium, 4d; -hsavy, 3.? d; North Island, best brands 3j|d. New Zealand ffamb— Canterbury, light s§d, medium 5Jd, heavy sd; Southland, 5Jd; North Island, fijd. /New Zealand beef—Ox fores, 2§d; -ox hinds, unchanged. River Plate sheep—Heavy, unchanged; light 3 3 16d. River Plate beef Ox fores, 27-16 d; hinds, unchanged. Received November 18, 10.10 a.m. LONDON, November 17. The wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,105,000 quarters; for the Continent 1,365,000 •quarters; Atlantic shipments, 390,000 quarters; Pacific shipments, 110,000 quarters.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, November 16th, 1907: — The mutton market is quiet but steady. Stocks of New Zealand mutton are light, and are firmly held in few hands. River Plate mutton is in large supply, and is being strongly pushed for sale, Canterbury mutton is quoted at 33d, North Island at 3|d per lb. There is a good demand for all lamb, considering the lateness of season. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 51d, other than Canterbury at 5Jd per lb. The beef market is dull, and supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. Hindquarters are quoted at 3Jd, forequaitsrs at 2§d per lb. The butter market is firm. Demand is good in anticipation of small arrivals for some time, although buyers are holding back expecting prices to go lower. Choicest New Zealand "butter is quoted at 118s, Australian 117s, Argentine 117s, Denmark 1225, Siberian 110s. The cheese market is quiet, with less demand. Canadian manufactures average 62s per qwt. The hemp market is quiet, and prices ai'e irregular as demand is principally speculative. New Zealand good fa r on spot is quoted at £3O; fair in the same position, £2B 10s; both nominal. Nothing offering here. JanuaryMarch shipments are quoted as follows:—Good fair grada, £2B 10s; fair, £27; fair current Manila, £29 10s. A large supply is expected. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen to do business. Prices are firm at 75s per cwt. Supplies from River Plate for October, 1907, are as follow:—Mutton: London, 57,533; Liverpool 162.700; Hull, 7,317; Newcastle, 7,980; Southampton, 2,297; Cardiff, 3,100; Ireland, 900. Total, 759,827. Lamb: Liverpool, 317. The following are thj current quotations for Braiiford tops:—36's, low cvossbreds, Is 2:} d; 4V's, low crossbreds, Is 3d;44's medium crossbred?, Is 4£e; 50's, halfbreds, Is 10d; 56's, quarterbreds,-2s; GO's, merinos, 2s 3Sd.
