PERSONAL.
Word was received in Wellington by cable on Saturday that Mr Duncan Stout, son of Sir Robert Stout, who is studying at Guy's Hospital, London, had passed the primary examination for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. This is a considerable achievement, as it is only three months since Mr Stout passed his intermediate examination. It is said that a candidate rarely passes the present examination at the first -attempt, as Mr Stout has done. Rev. Father Hyland, of Rangiova, is at present to Masterton. At a meeting *6f the Patients and Prisoners' Aid Society, at Dunedin, Mr J. A. Mr Torrance is now retiring after having engaged in mission work in Dunedin for forly years. The eldest son of Mr P. Shutkowski, of Cartel ton, is lying seriously ill, and is r.ot expected to re--cover.
