OVER HALF A MILLION.
♦ THE ALLAN McLEAN ESTATE. LARGE CHARITABLE BEQUESTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, November 16. The late Allan McLean's estate amounts to over half a million, about one-third of which is devoted to making provision for women who are in need. The "Holly Glen" Mansion, which Mr McLean built seven years ago, will become an endowment for a home for indigent gentlewoman and their young children. The will makes special provision for the selection of women whose education and upbringing make them congenial companions in the institution. It is intended solely Cor gentlewomen. The home will be controlled by a board comprising the Anglican and Catholic bishops, two Presbyterian and Wesleyan clergymen, the stipendiary magistrate, the chairmen of several local bodies, and two women, to be selected by the board. The balance of the one-third is to be used by the board to provide for needy women and their children under ten. The rest of the estate is left to relatives and friends of the deceased.
