THE FEDERAL TARIFF.-„ Received November 15, 9.28 a.m. MELBOURNE, November 15. Sheet lead and piping have been placed on the free list. The Government has abandoned the idea of sending the tariff to the Senate in sections.
LOSS OF SHEEP. THROUGH EATING THISTLES. Received November 15, 9.28 a.m. SYDNEY, November 15. Out of a flock of 2,000 sheep at Walgett, over 500 died from eating thistles. DEAR FOOD. SUGGESTED PROHIBITION OF EXPORTS. Received November 15, 9.28 a.m. SYDNEY, November 15. As a protest against dear food and the speculator reaping the enhanced profits, the Labour Council resolved that the Government should legislate to stop the wholesale export of food supplies. GOVERNMENT CENSURED. Received November 15, 10.42 a.m. HOBART, November 15. - In the Assembly a motion censuring the Government for not introducing the Free Education Bill was negatived. The Bill will be reintroduced next session. MR KEIR HARDIE. VISIT TO AUSTRALIA CURTAILED. Received November 16, 1.28 a.m. SYDNEY, November 15. Mr Keir Hardie, in a letter to Mr J. C. Watson, states that owing to his extended visit to India he must curtail his visit to Australasia, an he wishes to be back in time for the opening of the House of Commons. He will endeavour during his stay to see as many labour men as possible. Mr Keir Hardie adds: "The needs of India are great. My presence or absence from Australia is a matter of small importance, whereas by obtaining information concerning the people of India I may be able to do some service to them on my return."
