PERSONAL.

The husband of the late Mrs T. E. Jtawson, who died a few days ago at New Plymouth, had a rather distinguished professional career. He obtained the gold medal of his year at 'Christ's Hospital, London, and after being some years in practice in London he wrote several" pamphlets on medical subjects which attracted attention at the time. He came out to ithe dominion in the early days, and .shortly after his arrival he was appointed chief surgeon of all the colonial forces in jraranaki during the War. Up to the time of his • death Dr Rawson was in charge of ithe New 'Plymouth Hospital. He wrote several papers on the sanitary «condition of the Maori race, dealing generally with questions affecting ■the preservation of the Maoris, and ..pointing out the necessity of educating the Maori mothers in the -treatment of their children. The papers referred to attracted the attention of Sir Donald McLean, with «.the result that the Government of ;the day had them circulated in .pamphlet form. Mr A. P. Kawson, surveyor, •of Masterton, is a son of the late Dr. Rawson M.D. The late Mr Thos. Rawson engineer to the ■Dunedin Harbour Board who died . about two years ago was also a son. Mr Thomas Rawson was a most able engineer and it is a somewhat pathetic fact that his salary was increased to £I,OOO per annum in the isame week that he died. Dr. E. Rawson and Messrs H. P. Rawson, dentist, of Wellington, and C. E. Rawson, formerly district judge at Invercargill, are, also, sons of the late Dr. Rawson, and stepsons of the late Mrs Rawson. The death occurred at Sydenham (Christchurch), on November 3rd, of Mr J. Andrews, at one time a resident of Nireaha. Mr Coleman Phillips, solicitor, Ueft Carterton, yesterday afternoon, en route for" Sydney, where he will spend about a month. Sir John Gorst, brother-in-law of Mr F, G. Moore, of Masterion, const implates waiting a book on New Zealand as tHe outcome of his recent visit tothe dominion.
