BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES.

The monthly meeting of the North Wairarapa Benevolent Trustees was held yesterday afternoon, there being present :■—Messrs R. T. Holmes (chairman), J. Morris, J. C. Ewington, W. Morris, Mrs Cairns and Mrs Kean. An application was received from a married woman, 34 years of age, with two children, for assistance. The applicant stated that her husband had been committed to the asylum. She had, she s-iid, three brothers-in-law in good positions. The application was held over pending a report from the lady members of the society. An application for assistance was received from an old man, 72 years of age. The chairman stated that the applicant was given to drunken habits and had been refused the old age pension. No action was taken. In regard to another applicant, a married woman, 52 years of age, whose husband was too ill to work, and required careful nursing, the Trustees decided to give assistance to the extent of 15s per week. No action was taken with regard to a letter from the Mauriceville County Council asking the society to assist an old man who had been living in Master ton until recently. The pay-sheet, amounting to £l9 4s 8d for charitable aid, and £2B 10s 2d for the Rcnall-Solway Home, was passed.
