with the secretary, Mrj|H. A. Goodall, Bulls, at 9 p.m., on Saturday, December 7th.

TURF NOTES.

(By Zetland). Elevation arrived back from Christchurch on Monday. The Canterbury Cup and Derby winner is to be treated to a respite from work for a time. St. Brandon broke down while running in the Welter at Carterton on Saturday, (he hardness of the track accounting for this. Sen Sim was sold at Christchurch last week by his owner, Mr K. McKenzie. The price stated is 350 guineas, and the Chief Commander gelding will probably be taken to Australia to be raced there.

The Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club made a very substantial profit over its meeting. It is understood that the executive of the club will shortly proceed with the erection of a new stand to take the place of the building now used by the stewards, press and jockeys. Another necessary improvement is the turfing of the raised lawn, and the judge's box might well be replaced by a more up-to-date structure.

Royal Blue acted very badly in the soft going at Taratahi on Monday. The Merrie England gelding has never been a good mud-lark, so it is rather surprising that he was made such a pronounced favourite for the hurdle race. Royal Maid, the first of the Knight Errants to race, showed good form at Taratahi, and should gain further successes during the season. Vinco, by Conqueror, and Wharekura, by Eton, who were both among the entrants for this year's New Zealand Cup, started in the Maiden and Scurry at the Tara';ahi meeting. Neither showed form worthy of their breeding, but may improve with time.

The Wairarapa horses engaged at the Feilding meeting are Riflemaid, 'Gawain, Merrie Rose, Scotch Reel, Sandix, Royal Blue, Dtilcinea, Mataari, Moloch, Sharkeyn. and San Lass. The majority of these are well forward in the matter of condition, and at least a portion of the money may come this way. The weights for the Feilding meriting should be followed by numerous acceptances, and a successful meeting is assured. In the Flying Handicap, Contender Bst 91b, Dawn Bst llb.andToa Tuhi 7st 91b read well. Armistice Bst 51b, Gazeley Bst 21b, Sir Tristram Bst 61b and Moral Bst 41b, should be among the acceptors, while the following are nicely placed in their engagements: Spring Hurdles: Capulet lOst 10lb, and Royal Blue 9st 121b. Kiwitea Welter: Martyrium Bst 121b, Mataari 9st 101b and Saga Bst 111b. Hack Flying: Dusky Morn d»t 71b and Tupono 9st 31b.

Only small fields will be seen out at tho Marlborqugh meeting next week, but the fixture is sure to be an enjoyable one. Black Squall may win the Hurdle Handicap, and likely ones in the other events ar=; King Post, Silken Rein, Miss Vera, Moata and Naumai.

The racehorse Pixie died at Feilding on Monday night.
