The Mayor brought- before the borough council meeting, last evening, a scheme for carrying out an experiment in Queen street to improve the roadway. His suggestion was that the road in Queen street between Church and Perry streets t , should be torn up to the depth of about two or three inches, and well rolled, and then put down in tarred- broken metal, the surface of which could be tarred and sanded. This, he said, would not disturb the foundation, and would, he believed, make a good roadway, as he had been given to understand that a similar experiment had proved successful in Aucl#!>»d. The locality was an ideal one''*?«■'a practical test in view of the heavy traffic that passed over that part of the borough. A rough estimate of the cost of the work was £250, and this would be taken out of the £I,OOO. to be spent in Quean street.
