THE FINANCIAL DEPRESSION.

RESTORATION OF INDUSTRIAL EQUILIBRIUM SLOW. Received November 11, 9.54 p.m. LONDON, November 11. The New York correspondent of The Times states that while the situation is momentary calm in New York, and the currency troubles relieved by the influx of gold, the industrial centres have not been similarly eased. In many places outside the largest cities Clearing House cheques are freely used as paper money. Manufacturers are unable to get hills renewed, and are practising rigid economies. They have dismissed employees, and are cancelling orders for work. The leading New York bankers profess to be satisfied with the financial outlook, but the restoration of the equilibrium in industrial centres will be slow.
