DROWNED IN A GUTTER.

SUSPICIOUS DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, November 8. A man named Aitkin, a miner, of Collingwood, was found drowned in a St. Vincent street gutter this morning. He was lying face downwards, with his hands in his pockets. In the vicinity were blood stains. The police are investigating. There are no details yet available as to whether it is a case of suicide, accident or foul play. The curious circumstance of the hands being in the pockets has aroused suspicion. Aitken was a Puponga miner, and arrived at Nelson with other miners on Sunday. The only marks of violence on him are a graze above one eye, and a slight cut on the chin. Indentations on the nose and forehead were probably caused by stones in a fall. Blood marks in the vicinity are slight, but it is unknown whether they are human blood marks. Th*» deceased was addicted to drink. He was separated from his wife, and a summons for £67 in arrears was found on him. He was due to appear at the Westport Police Court, The theory is suicide.
