PERSONAL.

Mr A D. Hathaway, son of Mr A. Hathaway, of Masterton, haj resigned his position as stationmaster at Kaitoke, and intends to follow farming pursuits in the Wairarapa. Mr C. E. Daniell is expected to arrive back in Masterton from his trip to England on the 20th inst. Mr Darnell is returning by" the R.M.S. Oroya, which was at Fremantle on Thursday last, and is due at Melbourne on November 13th. Constable A. Gregor, who will, leave Masterton to-day en route for Fiji, where he has accepted tjie position of Sergeant in the constabulary, was met by a large number of his friends in the-Central Hotel, last,, evening, and presented with a handsome travelling bag. In making the presentation, Mr . F. S. Cooper, licensee of the Hotel, referred to the high esteem in which the departing" constable had been held, and, while expressing regret at his departure, wished him every success in his new sphere. These sentiments were endorsed by Messrs H. D. Bennett and J. O'Meara. Constable Gregor, in reciprocating- the good feelings expressed, said he felt regret at leaving the town, which' he would always remember with kindly feeling's.

The Hon. Hamilton Gilmore, M.L.C., and Mrs Gilmore, accompanied by Mr and Mrs A. McGuire,. of Wellington, and Mr T. Hamer, Under Secretary of Mines, arrived in Masterton from Wellington last, evening, tu spend the week end in the town.
