PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 7. At the Presbyterian Assembly, today, the treasurer presented his annual statement, which showed that all the funds were in a most satisfactory condition. It was stated that there was a large balance to the credit of the China Mission Fund, which would warrant the church making a forward movement in that direction. A discussion took place in reference to the bequest of £IOO left for the Presbyterian Orphanage, which it was proposed to pay to the Dunedin Presbyterian Orphanage until the Assembly should otherwise determine. The Rev, G. Munro urged the claims of Auckland. Eventually it was decided to retain the legacy on behalf of the orphanage fund. BIG GUN SHOOTING. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 7. The Petone Navals concluded their annual big gun shooting from Fort Kelburne, this morning, and for the third day in succession secured twelve hits with twelve shots. Deci - - mal seven is the standard for a firstclass shot, and this company's standard of merit on the three days has been 1.12, 1.34, and 1.38. COMPENSATION FOR INJURIES. To-day the Arbitration Court awarded Antonio Frankenbsrg £2soas compensation for injuries received while working as stevedore in discharging cargo on the Huddart-Par-ker Company's steamer Zealandia last May. David Henry Tobin claimed £3OO from the New Zealand Shipping Company for injuries received in March* by fallingvinto the hold of the Turakina. The Court awarded £220. FATAL ACCIDENT. A fatal accident occurred at the Paparoa Coal Company's works, Blackball, this afternoon, where the foreman of the tunnel work, Martin Horrobin, was killed by a fall of stone. The deceased was.42 years of age, and his wife and family are at Home. POPULATION OP NSW ZEALAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 7. The estimated population of New Zealand on September 30th was 919,190, plus Maoris 47,731, and Cook and other islands 12,340. These figures represent a gain for the quarter of 4,598.
