POLITICS IN NEW YORK.
J COUNTY ELECTIONS. HEARST'S PROSPECTS FOR PRESIDENCY EXTINGUISHED. Received November 7, 9.30 p.m. NEW YORK, November 7. In respect to the New York State county elections, the fact of Tammany defeating the Republicans and the Hearst fusion is considered notable because Hearst attempted to detach the Irish vote by attacking the London Times and indulging in Angloohobiajn his papers. Hearst's prospects for the presidency of the United States are considered to be extinguished. Kentucky and New Jersey State have gone over to the Republicans, though New Jersey City remains Democratic. The Mormon mayor of Salt Lake City was defeated by a religious opponent.
