AGRICULTURAL SHOWS.
CANTERBURY. By Telegraph—Press Association. CFIRISTCHURCH, November 6. The Canterbury A. and P. Association's Metropolitan Show opened, to-day in dull weather. The imple- * ments and machinery, New Zealand manufactures, and carriages were judged to-day, and the fencing competition was held in the afternoon. Tomorrow the draught horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, dairy produce, and preserved meats will be judged, and the light horses, tradesmen's carts, and sheep dogs will be reserved for Friday. There was only a small display of implements to-day, the exhibits totalling 107 as againßt 471 last year. Traction and oil engines are principally in evidence, but one of the most interesting features of the section is tha milking machines, shown in operation. Nearly seventy vehicles were entered in the carriage class, "the exhibits including drays, lorries, station waggons, Whitechapel carts, dogcarts, gigs and pony carts. Large numbers of sheep were placed in the pens near the railway siding to-day, ready to. be taken to the competition pens tehind the pavilion. It is agreed that they display exceptionally good condition, and it is expected that the show will be well up to the standard. Cattle and horses will be taken on to the show, to-morrow, in time to be judged. North Island breeders are practically unrepresented this year in any class of stock, and the display in this respect will depend almost entirely upon Canterbury. A WANGANUI. By Telegraph —Press Association. WANGANUI, November 6. The entries of live stock for the Wanganui Agricultural Show number 1970. The home industries exhibit numbers 1,316.
