Passing the stand Mountain King was in front from Bendigo. Then came Spinaway, Mooltan, and Melodrama. Subsequently Lady Esme, Welcome Trist and Isnox took a hand in carrying on the running, but the favourites were never far away. Knox was leading round the turn, but surrendered the position to Mooltan, Apologue and Mountain King before the straight was reached. Mooltan was first to turn for home, then the favourite and Mountain King came at him, and a neck and neck race ensued to the distance, where Apologue asserted himself, and gradually drawing out won comfortably by three-quarters of a length. Evans, the rider of the winner, fainted on returning to the sca!es, and for a time his condition was thought to be serious, but he rallied somewhat and was conveyed to his home. ELLEKSLIE TRAINING NOTES. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 5. The weather was fine for the training operations at Ellerslie this morning. The outside course proper was open, as .well as the sand and tan. Gail Rosa and Scotty ran a round of the tan in lmm 54 3-ssec, Pohutu joining in the last mile. Carl Rosa, who is very well, finished on terms with Pohutu and Scotty four lengths uway. Downfall, alone, went six furlongs on the outside course, in lmin 19sec - a good gallop. Lord Seaton and Celtic finished together jver seven furlongs on the sand in imin 30 4-ssec—exceptionally fast. (Jhnntreuse spurted four furlongs on :ha outside course in 51 3-ssec. Uhlander' beat Waipuna over a mile and a quarter on the outside course in 2min,,22sec. The latter moved better than on Saturday, and appears to be coming on. After breakfast, Santa Rosa finished better than Waimangu and Pyralis over four furlongs on the course proper in 51 3-ssec. Taimanupo beat Luros on the five furlongs course proper in imin 7 2-ssec. General Soult easily held Seditious at the end of the five

furlongs on the course proper in 52 4-ssec. Te Aroha did a similar task in 50 4-ssec. Rauparaha moved pleasingly over seven furlongs on the course proper, the last six in lmin 19 4-ssee. Sol jumped the hurdles. Potiki, Loch Fyne," Lady Lanta, and Gray Dawn were sent round the steeplechase course. The quartette fenced splendidly. A large number of others worked. ASHHURST-POHANGINA NOMINATIONS. The Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club announce that circumstances have necessitated the alteration of the date of their nominations and Guinea payments, which is now fixed for Thursday, December sth next. The jockey, Miller, who has recently come to the front in the racing world in New York, has been engaged to ride at California meetings for a fee of £5,000. This, it is stated, will mean that his earnings for the year will be £IO,OOO. It is claimed that Miller is the best paid jockey in the world.
