POISONED FOOD. DEATH OF ONE MAN. OTHERS PROSTRATED. Received November 6, 12.30 a.m. SYDNEY, November 5. Frederick Hogno and the members of his family, and a number of shearers engaged at Hogno's station, at Walcha, were seized with symptoms of poisoning. Hogno succumbed. His wife is in a precarious condition. The others are recovering. The supposition is that poison accidentally became mixed with the food. NOT ANTHRAX, BUT THISTLES. | Received November 6, 1.3 a.m. SYDNEY, November 5. I Further investigations confirm the lirst theory that the Walcha cattle | died from eating thistles. (Out of a mob of 635 cattle travelling from Walcha (350 miles north of Sydney) 585 died in one night. It was at first reported that the cattle had died through eating thistles. Subsequently a cablegram stated that the Government veterinarian reported that the death of the cattle was due to anthrax). NEWCASTLE MINERS. DISCUSSION IN CAMERA. Sellers wanted 5s 3d, but buyers are holding off. SHIPPING. Received November 6, 12.23 a.m. SYDNEY, November 5. Arrived —Yeddo, from Auckland. HOBART, November 5. Arrived —Maori. After coaling she will proceed direct to Wellington.
