THE FINANCIAL DEPRESSION.
ISSUE OF PAPER MONEY. Received November 5, 8.20 a.m. NEW YORK, November 4. The Comptroller of New York City and the United States Steel Corporation, also many large private firms, are paying employees by cheque. The banks of St. Louis and Kansas city are circulating cheques and notes for small amot'nts of money. Received November 5, 8.35 a.m. LONDON, November 4. The bank rate of discount is now six per cent. MORE MONETARY ASSISTANCE. STRONG TUNE IN WALL STREET. Received November ii, 10.29 p.m. NEW YOKK, November 5. Bankers .in New York have advanced money subject to certain conditions, bringing the Trust Company of America and the Lincoln Trust Company successfully through the ordeal. A strong tone prevailed in Wall Street at the close, and prices were well above London levels. Matters are more hopeful, and President Roosevelt will not call an extra session of Congress. Including yesterday's arrangements for the importation of half a million pounds worth of gold the total movement aggregates six and a-half millions.
