CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Castlejpoint County Council was held, on Saturday last, in Tinui. There were present—Crs A. J. Speedy (chairman), Langdon, Bennett, Richardson, Ryder and Inneas. The cleric informed the meeting that a piece of land for a gravel pit •could be purchased on the Terrace at Ngapopata. Cv Richardson and the clerk were authorised to arrange for the purchase of the same.. Mr Barton wrote requesting to .have some repairs 'done to the road iTom Mataikona Station to the beach, and also to be relieved from the guarantee given for initial expenses in connection with the , taking of a poll for a loan of £2,000. This was agreed to. The clerk of the Papanui Borough 'Council applied tor information in -respect to new counties, and the *-4 -mode of procedure at the commence.ment. The secretary of the Greytown Hospital Board gave notice of the -election of seven trustees for the ■South Wairarapa Hospital, and asking that a delegate be appointed to represent the county. The Wellington Benevolent Institution also gave notice of the election of trustees on the 2nd of December. Mr W. G. Groves wrote asking the Council to allow him part of the cost of the upkeep of the crossing of the creek below the house, also for metalUng done between the creek and the main road at Bush Grove. It was decided to allow part of the costs. Messrs Robinson and Robinson wrote desiring to know when the Council would be prepared to, meet Mr Barton with them and discuss the question of impounding stock straying from unfenced lands. It was agreed to meet them on the 30th of November if that date was suitable., It was resolved to expend a sum not exceeding six pounds on the road above* Annedale woolshed, and to cut a - new channel for the creek'at the Rewa Rewa boundary to a point above the bridge on Mr Langdon's flat in Swamp Creek. *■ ' The clerk was instructed to get Matenga Potangaroa to Masterton to complete the agreement for the road from Whakataki to Castlepoint, and to apply to the Akitio County Council for payment of £lO expended on .the; road from Purrel Creek to ttie Pakowai river as agreed. It was decided that' the ranger be instructed to impound all stock found straying on roads which are fenced; that the necessary repairsto the formation and metalling on the Tinui-Manawa road be. taken' in hand as soon'-as .possible; that Messrs Nicholb and Dalzell be asked if they intend to carry out the No. 24' contract (metallmg), and that a thorough test of the stone bo .made at Langdale by" having a quantity broken by day labour for road metal. Crs Ryder and Bennett were authorized to arrange with Mr Gifford for the supply of some black birch poles for protective works in Mangapakeha river. It was decided to take steps under 'the Public Works Act to secure a site. > -. ■ for a roadman's cottage adjoining-Mr Collerton's farm, part of lea estate; that tenders be invited, /or metalling the road from the Uriti-Langdale - road to the ford at lea, 24 chains; and that Mr McPhee be informed that the stone-crusher will not Wre~ quired at present. Accounts totalling £l7O 2s -lOd passed for payment;
