ALL RED STEAMER ROUTE.

SIR J. MILLS INTERVIEWED. Received November 1, 12.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 31. Sir James Mills, of the U.S.S. Co. interviewed, said that during his visit to England he had endeavoured to have faster steam service instituted between England and Australia, via Canada and New, Zealand, and there was every prospect of his efforts being successful, and the time for the through passage from England to Sydney being reduced to 26 or 28 days. A scheme was being prepared by an English syndicate-to lay before the Imperial Government fur a fast service via the All Red route, but he was not at liberty to say whether the Union Company would be connected with the syndicate. The idea was to construct a railway across Ireland to Blacksod Bay in Mayo. The other Irhsh terminal would be connected by steamer ferry transporting bodily the train and passengers to a point in Scotland. Steamers would run from Blacksod Bay to Halifax, thence by a fast improvei railway service to Vancouver. From Vancouver a faster type of steamers than that at present employed would run to Australia if the service was to, be continued as at present.
