A farewell dinner was tendered on j Tuesday night by a number of resi-j den*;sof Pahiatua to Mr T. Cotter, j who has taken over the Masonic Hotel at Dannevirke. Mr W. Tosswiil occupied the chair. A most enjoyable evening was spent, and speeches appropriate to the occasion were delivered by Father McKenna, Dr. Dawson and Mr E. Sullivan. Songs and recitations were given by Messrs M. Quirke, G. C Burgess, J. W. Sturton, J. Webb, J. A. Walsh, W, A. Boagey and others. Miss lorns, of Masterton. has been appointed teacher at the Dry River School. ■3fai Mr J. D. Cruickshank, President 4tuf the Masterton A. and P. Association, will leave by this morning's tralrj to attend the Manawatu A. and P>£saociation's Show at Palmerston <North. Mr B. H. Keys, officer in charge of the telegraph office at Napier, was, on Tuesday night, presented with a purse of sovereigns by the business people of that town. The Mayor congratulated Mr Keys on his promotion to Dunedin and expressed the regret of the people of Napier in losing the services of such a courteous and efficient officer. Mr E. R. L. Rutherford, of Carterton, has removed to Dannevirke to take up a position there under the Department of Agriculture. Dr. Johnstone, who has been on an extended holiday to Napier, will return to Carterton on Saturday next. Mr F. C. Lewis, late managing director of Lowes and lorns, Ltd., has joined the local sta<f of Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., as fat stock drafter and general agent. Mill. P. Harrison, of the firm's Masterton branch, has been transferred \.jT. to Pahiatua, and Mr T. Cooper, of - Pahiatua, has been transferred to Masterton.
