Sutherland's claim against the Union Steamship Company for injuries sustained to his hand while working on the steams r Uaupiri was reported to have been settled out of Court. In the case of the widow of Captain Gonzales, who lost his life at sea after being twenty-one years with the Northern Steamship Company, the Court allotted one-third of £339 to the widow, and the balance to her six children.

Mr Widdowson, S.M., gave his deferred judgment in the adjourned case in which Leah Myers, who keeps tea rooms in the Octagon, was charged with sly grog-selling. Dinne, Commissioner of Police, met with a painful accident, this evening, while playing bowls on the Wellington Club's green. In walking across the green Mr Dinnie stepped on a bowl, and in recovering himself he stepped on another, breaking his left- leg just above the ankle. Drs. Ewart and .Boyd found that both bones of the leg were broken. Mr Dinnie was taken to his home, where the leg was set.
