ABATTOIR WATER SUPPLY.
REPORT FROM THE MANAGER. The manager of the abattoir (Mr D. Elliott) wrote to the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, stating that the yield of water from the spring from which the abattoir supply is drawn, had diminished a good deal during the last few days, and if the weather remained dry for another week he was afraid that the water supply would have to be obtained from another source. He believed that if a large concrete tank were constructed near the Abattoir, and water "piped" to it from one of the permanent springs on land adjoining the borough property, the difficulty would be overcom?. Mr Elliott' believed that a good flow of water could be obtained from a spring in a property .adjoining the abattoir. In order to keep the premises in a thoroughly sanitary condition during the hot weather, a copious supply of water was absolutely essential, and he hoped the council would take immediate steps necessary to ensure a permanent and adequate supply. The Mayor said he had had a conversation with Mr Elliott in connection with the matter. The position was not a very serious one at present, but Mr Elliott was anxious that something should be done to assure a plentiful supply of water during the sunmer. A committee, consisting of the Mayor and Crs Morris and Haughey, was appointed to consider the matter and report to the next meeting.
