MANAWATU SHOW.

By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Oct. 29. Although the show will not open till to-morrow, judging proceeded today in the art and technical schools sections. The judges expressed themselves as agreeably surprised at the general excellence of the various displays, the art section, particularly, being beautiful. One judge remarked that he thought the exhibits better than those at the Christchurch Exhibition. The photographic display was also excellent. The principal awards in to-day's judging were as follow (first prize only in each case)-.—Photograph, landscape, marine, H. Plimmer; portrait study, E. S. Pegler; figure studj', A. B. Hepworth; animal life study, A. W. Bathgate. An excellent display was made by the technical schools, the prizes being distributed among the Palmerston North and Wellington technical schools, Wellington Girls' College, Damievirke High School, Woodville High School, and Christchurch School of Art. In the public schools display the excellent exhibit was contributed to by numerous schools in the surrounding district, nearly every school carrying off its share of prizes. Some of the results of the judging in the live stock competition will be available to-morrow.
