PERSONAL.

On Friday evening last Mr W. Ofr, who has been a resident of Tane for a number of years, was tendered a farewell social by the residents. Mr D. Elliott, manager of the Masterton Abattoir, who. has received an appointment in the Stock Department, was presented by the Abattoir staff, yesterday, with a case of pipes. The presentation was made by the head butcher, Mr P. Jorgenson, who referred to the cordial relations that had existed between the manager and the staff in the past, and congratulated Mr Elliott on his promotion. The recipient suitably acknowledged the presentation. At Knox Church, yesterday after- _ noon, Mr Arthur lorns, second son of ■?*" Mr Joseph lorns, of Masterton, was married to Miss Mary Kennedy, third daughter of the late Mr Donald Kennedy. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. A. T. Thompson. The honeymoon will be spent in Nelson, for which place the newly-wedded couple left in the afternoon. Yesterday Mr lorns was presented by the staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., with a hot water stand and silver-mounted jam dish. The presentation was made by the Manager, Mr F. W. Carey, who made a few remarks appropriate of the occasion. Lieutenant Caleott, of the Salvation Army, Pahiatua, left for Gisborne, yesterday, on a holiday trip. Mr Newcombe, of Pleckville, who has been on an extended tour of the Old Country, has returned home. Mrs Anders Anderson and Miss Matilda Anderson, of Eketahuna, who have been on a trip to Norway and Sweden, have also returned to the dominion. Mr W. Moore, of Carterton, is laid up wi*,h bronchitis, following on a . severe attack of influenza. The death occurred at Rangiora, on Monday last, of Mrs J. Ranby, sister of Mr J. Hessey, of Masterton. The deceased was 67 years of age.
