TAHITIAN AFFAIRS.
LATENT INSURRECTION. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, October 28. A correspondent at Papeete, Tahiti, makes serious allegations against certain officials there. He says the public is in a state of latent insurrection, which cannot continue long. The highest officials are treated with open contempt, and in spite of all efforts the attention of the French Colonial Office cannot be drawn to the .abuses which exist Natives, Frenchmen, and foreigners alike would welcome the transfer of the colony to.the British flag.
