CARTERTON SCHOOL.
THE SCARLET FEVER OUTBREAK. By Telegraph —Press Association. CARTERTON, October 28. Only 84 scholars were present out: of 318 on the roll of the Carterton school. Parents are scared at the scarlet fever outbreak, and the board, has been urged by the health officers to temporarily close the school, but has declined. It also declined to connect the school closets with the drainage system. There is considerable indignation over the matter. A DENIAL BY THE BOARD.. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON. October 28. The Education Board denies a statement.telegraphed from Carterton that the Board has declined to accede to the request that the Carterton School be temporarily closed owing to an outbreak of scarlet fever. As a matter of fact the school is to be closed to-morrow, and for the rest of the week, to allow of fumigation. As to the complaint about closets, in erecting additions to the school recently, the very best closets were put in, ar.d it is intended to provide similar ones throughout the school as soon as the work in hand will permit.
