PERSONAL.
Mr W. Salmon, a well-known commercial traveller, died suddenly in the smoking-room of the Club Hotel, Palmerston North, yesterday morning. The Wellington Education Board has accepted the resignation of Mr A. Buchler, headmaster of the , Mauriceville School. E. Page has been promoted to be captain of the Eketahuna Mounted Rifle Volunteers. Mr T. Balfour, of Waipukurau, lias been appointed an officer under the Fisheries' Conservation Act. Mr H. Bennett has been appointed Deputy Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages at Featherston. The Carterton Druids Lodge will tender a farewell social to Bro. Bellman on November 4th. Members of the Masterton and Greytown Druids Lodges will oe present at the function. Mr W. C. Buchanan has expressed his intention of contesting the Wairarapa seat at the next election. Mr S. W. Starton has been appointed lieutenant of the Pahiatua Mounted Rifles.
