THE RAILWAY TROUBLE IN ENGLAND.
STATEMENT BY ENGINEERS' SECRETARY. Received October 23. 8.25 a.m. LONDON, October 22. Mr Fox, general secretary of the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen, in an interview stated that, despite the decision of the Manchester meeting, his society cannot support the programme of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. CLERKS' ASSOCIATION SUPPORT ■THE RAILWAY SERVANTS. Received October 23, 10.52 p.m. LONDON, October 23. The Railway Clerks' Association have decided to support the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. Mr Richard Bell, speaking at Derby, expressed the hope that the crisis was now at its worst. He was determined not to say a word calculated to impede Mr Lloyd George's efforts to secure a friendly result at the conference with the railway directors, but he was sorry that the Midland Company had been in such a hurry to import outsiders. Such action, instead of intimidating, would make the men more determined.
