ATTEMPTS TO DERAIL TRAINS. Received October 22, 10.35 p.m. LONDON, October 22. Two determined attempt 3 made to derail the Queenstown and Cork trains, near Little Island, County Cork, were frustrated.
THE EXCLUSION OF ASIATICS. CANADA'S PERSISTENT CRY. Received October 22, 9.58 p m. OTTAWA, October 22. Mr Rudyard Kipling, at the Canadian Club here, urged [a powerful plea against the exclusion of Asiatics. He had been struck throughout the Dominion with the strong and persistent: cry for more help and more people. He found Hindus employed at unskilled labour which whites declined to handle. If the Canadians proposed to develop their country on the lines of a close corporation their glory would pass from them. It was as a nation among great nations that Canada would l:e judged. • The speech was greeted with cheera. Sir Wilfred Laurier, Preirier, cordially seconded a vote of thanks to Mr Kipling.
