Mr C. McDonald, of Nireaha, hasbeen appointed manager of the Linton cheese factory. Mr D. Brosnahan, cadet in the Peatherston railway station, has Been transferred to Picton. His place has been taken by Mr H. Bennett, o£. Wellington. Mr G. W. Chatwin has been appointed handicapper for the Mangatainoka Athletic Club's sports which: are to be held on Boxing Day. An old Maori War veteran, Mr Andrew Cole, late sergeant in the 65th Regiment, died at New Plymouth, on Saturday last, aged 74 years. After twenty-five years' service, Mr A. D. G. Cumming has resigned from the position of Town Clerk to the Borough of Westport. Mr John Herdley Eades, an old resident of Alfredton, died suddenly on Sunday morning last. J A civic welcome to Wellington will H be extended to the Rev. Flanagan, a noted Methodist divine, who, it is anticipated, will reach that city from England on November 6th. Mr Flanagan has some celebrity as an evangelist, whose study and mission have been devoted for the greater part to the seamy side of life in London. It is the intention of the evangelist during his six months' tour of New Zealand to deal with the question of slum-life in the Old Country, and if possible to augment a fund that has been started for the building of an establishment in London to deal with the problem of poverty there. This Building, it is calculated, wijl cost £20,000, and wi)l be the heart of an administration that will have for its object the uplifting of those in London who do not know a home and will never know one, except for the benevolence of those whose mouthpiece Mr Flanagan intends to be.
