THE ROYAL SHOW.
. 4 A STORM GATHERING. WILL IT STRIKE MASTERTON? (From a Special Correspondent.) There is a coolness between Nelson and Marlborough. It will be remembered that at the last Colonial Conference of the A. and P. Societies held at Wellington, it was resolved to-establish a council consisting of delates from the various provinces, to deal with matters of special general interest, such as the holding of a Royal Show. One gentleman at the conference, with a deeper knowledge of human nature than the others, expressed a fear that there would be friction in those districts which, though possessing several A. and P. Societies, were only allotted one delegate.; but the rest of the conference refused to take alarm. The districts allotted one member each are the following:—Canterbury, Otago, Southland, Wairarapa, Manawatu, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay with Gisborne, and Marlborough with Nelson. Auckland, being already overrenresented on the executive, was no't given further representation. It will be obvious therefore that the seeds of many interesting situations are wrapped up in that pregnant decision. We shall look for them to germinate in the districts which contain Wanganui and New Plymouth, Gisborne and Napier, Marlborough and Nelson, Mastorton and Carterton. The trouble has already begun down South between Marlborough and Nelson; and Nelson has raised the great auestion of Precedence. A Nelson paper thus reports the preliminary encounter: — "The Marlborough A. and P. Association wrote"—(to the Nelson A. and P. Association)— "that for the member for Nelson and Marlborough they had selected Mr A. McCallum, and Nelson could select one next year. "MrG. E. Chisnall, who was the Nelson delegate at the conference, considered the matter should have come first from the secretary of the conference, and not from the Marlborough Association. "Mr W' T. Bond agreed with Mr Chisfiam 1 He considered, as Nelson was the senior province, the Nelson Association should be . allowed to have the first se'ection of a committeeman. "Resolved, on the motion of Mr Chifenall, seconded by Mr Clayden, .that the letter lie on the table, and no action be taken till a communication is received froiL Mr Hall, the secretary of the late conference."
