A FATALITY PLUCKILY AVERTED.

By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, October 21. The bravery and presence of mind of Harry Niven, driver of a mail cart, prevented a buggy accident that might have been attended with fatal consequences, in George Street yesterday. The vehicle was a large double-seated one, containing two ladies, two children, and the driver. A bolt came out and detached one of the shafts, which got between the legs of the horse, and a runaway resulted. Niven's action in seizing the horse's head and hanging on, to his own risk, averted serious consequences.
