A FATAL FALL.
The new Prince of Wales Hotel building, in course of erection, in Queen Street, by Messrs Coradine and Whittaker, was ths scene of a fatality on Saturday morning, about 11 o'clock. Walter Anthony Andrews, a carpenter, aged 23 years, was standing on the unfinished brick wall, and was assisting in landing a joist, which was being hoisted up by means of a derrick, when, apparently, he became confused, lost his balance, and fell from the wall. His head struck some timber that was lying on the ground. When picked up he was unconscious and blood was issuing from his ears. Dr. Cow.ie, who was immediately summoned, after temporarily treating the injured man had him removed to the hospital in an ambulance litter. The unfortunate man never regained consciousness, and died in the hospital about 4 p.m. Deceased, who was a single man, was the second son of Mr and Mrs G. R. Andrews, of Wellington. He was born in Carterton, where he lived practically all his life. He came to Masterton about two months ago and had only been working on the Prince of Wales Hotel building for a week.
