—_-*- • (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wednesday. The cricket season was opened this afternoon, when the members of the local Cricket Club indulged in practice. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Volunteer Corps in Carterton was held in the Borough Council Chambers, last evening. A number of intending members were present, and Major R. W. Tate, or the Greytown Rifles, occupied the chair. All those present were enrolled as members and the offer of their services will be forwarde'i to jfre Government for approval. W& Out of two incubators containing 500 and 200 eggp, respectively, only 130 chickens were hatched on a local poultry farm.
