LAND BOARD MEMBERS.

The latest proposal regarding the appointment of members of the Land Boards of the colony has t) be credited to Mr Hemes, member for Bay of Plenty. He, as do a good many other members, objects to the Government nominee system. This member has given notice of an amendment he is desirous of making in the Land Laws Amendment Bill to have members of the Land Boards elected—one to be nominated by the Governor, one by the County Councils representing the areas covered by tho Board's operations, and two members elected by the lessees or licensees of Crown lands. His proposal further requires that the membors should hold office for two years.
