Several of the visiting horses engaged at the Wellington meeting put in an appearance at headquarters on Saturday. Rain fell heavily throughout Saturday night and yesterday morning, and the tracks were in a wet and sloppy state. All the work was done on the outside of the course proper, which cut up quickly. F. Higgot was the only one out before breakfast. Moata and Marseillaise sprinted six furlongs. Easy tasks were allotted Shrapnel Shell and Truthful. The Porirua Wellington Handicap candidates, William and Kurawaka, ran once round together, the last seven furlongs at a solid pace. Swimming Belt by himself, galloped seven furlongs at threequarter pace. Aeolus, pulling hard, was restricted to half pace, doing once round. De Witte improved the pace at the half mile post, but was not asked to do his best. Hiro appeared to go well in the mud ina gallop over a mile and a quarter. Fleetfoot cantered round, spurting down the straight. Stuart Waddell put in an appearance with the Hon. J. D. Ormond's team, numbering ten. They all look pretty forward. \ The most interesting work was done by Zimmerman, who galloped once round, and was picked up at t,he mile post by Intelligence, the pair finishing together. Martyrium, Oxtor, Diamond Star, St. Aidan,. Dawn, Eona, Kairoma, and Sir Tristram did useful tasks. Waihuka and Ney went together, Pari tutu working by himself Jatej in the morning. All Red and Gold Crest went half a mile in company, moving pleasingly. Hereward, Contralto, Supplement, Clanchattan, Le Beau, Black Squall, Wind, and others were worked.
