MASTERTON FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Masterton Friendly Societies' Council was held last evening, in the Foresters' Hall, there being a large attendance of delegates. After discussion the following motion was unanimously carried: — I "That in the opinion of this Council \ it is desirable that Drs. Cook and Cowie should be placed on the active medical staff of the Masterton Hospital." A deputation consisting of one ' delegate from each Society was appointed to wait on the Hospital Trustees at cheir next meeting, to urge the necessity of this course being taken. 'lt was stated by speakers that under the present arrangements if a patient is sent to the hospital for treatment by either Drs. Cook or Cowie he could not be treated there by them. This was considered unfair both to the patients and the doctors concerned. The following notice of motion was given:— "That at the next Council meeting the matter of arranging a uniform agreement between the Friendly Societies and the doctors and chemists of Masterton be gone into." It was decided to hold a United Friendly Societies picnic and sports at a date to be fixed, and the secretary was instructed to write to the secretaries of lodges in the Wairarapa inviting their co-operation.
