MR GEO. CATHRO'S COMPANY.

Mr George Cathro's Company commenced a two-nights' season in the Town Hall, last evening. The audience was not large, but those who were present thoroughly enjoyed themselves, for an excellent programme was submitted. The principal feature was "The World of Transgression"—a series of moving pictures depicting the "seamy" side of life. The picture was presented in two parts, and showed a variety of phrases of, life chiefly in Paris. "Hooligans in Paris" was a fine film, and gave the audience a very good idea of the manner in which a large number of people live in the capital city of France. "A Life for a Life" was a pathetic episode, and in the sensational line a splendid detective story was shown on the canvass. "A Trip Across the Atlantic" was an instructive film, as was that showing a panorama of modern naval warfare. In the comic series "A Shave by Instalments," and "The Christmas Goose," were very good. Besides the pictures a number of capital musical items were rendered. Mr A. L. Cropp, the eminent basso, possesses a voice of excellent range, and each of his songs were a treat to listen to. In response to an encore he sang "The Duty of the Old Turn King." In the second half of the programme he contributed "The Bandolero," with"fine effect. "Baby" Lynne showed herself a clever little song and dance artist. She contributed a coon song and followed it up with a which was deservedly encored. Mr Bob Lloyd supplied the comic element. He sang several humourous songs, all of which were loudly applauded. Perhaps the best of the songj were "If Captain Cook Had Never Landed Here," a song introducing several local "hits," and "Everybody Works But Father." The Company will make its final appearance this evening.
