PAIRAU SWAMP ROAD.

Mr A. W. Hogg,. M.H.R., forwarded to the meeting of the Masterton County Council, yesterday, a letter that he had received from the Minister of Public Works stating that the application of the Masterton County Council for a subsidy for metalling the Pairau Swamp Road had been forwarded to the departmental officers for a report. A further letter from the Minister stated that the road was in the middle of a long-settled district. That being so, and as it was impossible to carry out all urgent works in the back-blocks and newly-settled districts out of a limite j fund, the Minister regretted that he could not «ee his way to accede to the Council's request.
