BRITISH RAILWAY TROUBLE.
SUGGESTED REMEDY. Received October 7, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, October 6.
In connection with the trouble between the railway companies and the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, a meeting of merchants and traders of the Midland Counties urged as an effective remedy the intervention of the Board of Trade, or the Government appointment of a Board of Conciliation. Mr Richard Bell, Labour M.P., and secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, concurs in the suggestion. BILLIARDS. WEISS DEFEATS ROBERTS.
Received October 7, 7-28 a.m. LONDON, October 6. In a billiard match on an oval table between Weiss (the Australian) and Roberts, Weiss scored the 14,000 while Roberts' score stood at 12,534. During the match Roberts scored the highest break (291), Weiss' best being 227. Weiss is the only living professional who has defeated Roberts on equal terms.
