MASTERTON TENNIS CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Masterton Tennis Club, which was held in. the Technical School Building, yesterday afternoon, was attended by about fifteen members. The chair was occupied by the President, Rev. Dean McKenna. . The annual balance-'shee.t showed that the receipts had been £232 18s lid, including an overdraft at date of £92 ■ls sd. The, members' subscriptions had amounted to £96 7s 6d, and the receipts in connection «'ith the championship meeting and from other minor sources had been £44 10s. The expenditure had been £l4l 14s. The overdraft at the beginning of the year had been £92 4s lid, and during the year this had been reduced by 3s 6d. The excess of assets over liabilities was shown as £7B 13s sd. The Chairman, in speaking on the balance-sheet, emphasised the necessity for carrying on the club's tournaments more,expeditiously. The bal-anct-sheet was adopted on the motion of Mr G. C. Summerell.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: — President, Rev. Dean McKenna (re-elected): Vicepresidents, Messrs W. P.' James (reelected) and A. R. Bunny; General Committee, Messrs C. C. Cox, D. Caselberg, S. R. Gawith, A. R. Sclanders, and E. Rawson; Hon. Treasurer, Mr J. Caselberg (reelected) ; Hon. Secretary, Mr N. D. Bunting ( re-elected); Hon. Auditor, Mr G. C. Summerell (re-elected). After a discussion it was decided to instruct the Committee to enforce the rule relating to payment of entrance fees in the case of new members, i
iA suggestion was made that the Committee should take into consideration the question of changing the croquet lawn into an extra tennis court on Saturdays if it were found that the present number of courts were insufficient for the number of players present on Saturdays. The matter of connecting the C)ub's pavilion with the telephone exchange was referred to the Committee.
On the motion of Mr E. Rawson, it was decided to recommend the Match Committee to arrange for matches for second-grade players with outside clubs. The Committee was instructed to give effect to the resolution passed at the last annual meeting with reference to the letting of the courts, and the time limits for players. The matter of fixing days on which the ladies may have the sole use of the courts was referred to the Committee.
In connection this year's tournaments Mr Sclanders stated that the Committee were determined to have them carried out satisfactorily. It was proposed that each round should be finished by a fixed date, and those players who had not finished their games would be scratched.
A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Wolffe for her services during the past year as 1 any secretary, and she was unanimously re-elected to the position. Votes of thanks were also accorded to the yHiring officers, and. to the Club's energetic secretary, Mr N D. Bunting.
