CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent)
i Friday. A meeting of the Ground Committee of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society was held on the Showgrounds to-day. The Committee met to consider in what position the oval fence should be placed and it was decided that the side fence should remain in its present position, but that alterations should be effected at either end. A sub-committee was appointed to confer with the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union in the matter and report at a future meeting. The Committee inspected various improvements that are being carried out, including a luncheon room and there-erection and enlargement of the ladies' cloak-room at the entrance to the Society's grounds. The annual railway ball was held in the Victoria Hall last evening. At an interval in the proceedings the member for Wairarapa, Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, addressed those present. He expressed his pleasure at being present that evening, and said that he was more than delighted with the excellent arrangements that had been made for the function. Excellent music was provided by Misses Berrill (piano) and Petersen (violin), and Messrs J. Barrett (piccolo) and R. Crawley (cornet). Several extras were played. The fortnightly meeting of the Heart of Oak Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., 'was held on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance of members. Bro. Lamb was in the chair. Routine business was transacted.
