THE PANAMA CANAL.
Received October 3, 10.54 p.m. NEW YORK, October 3. President Roosevelt, addressing an audience of ten thousand at St. Louis, after emphasizing the enormous importance of improving the facilities for transportation on the Mississippi, stated that the construe tion of the Panama Canal was proceeding apace. At the present rate of progress the actual digging would be completed within five or six years.
