WALKING RACE.

MARTON, Octobers

A walking race from Marton to Bulls and back, a distance of eight miles, took place to-day. There were nine competitors, and agreatfinifh resulted between C. Wilson, Utiku, and W. Brock, Marton, the former winning by a few inches, with Housen, Bulls, third, and Waksman, Taihape, fourth. The time occupkd was 3 hours 16 minutes, or an average of 10 minutes 53 seconds a mile. The competitors had to face a strong gale on the homeward journey.
