Japanese statesmen and newspapers are delighted at the AngloRussian Convention, which considerably lightens Japanese responsibility in connection with the defence of the frontier.
Japanese newspapers state that Count Okuma believes that an unpublished understanding exist* between Great Britain and Russia regarding the Balkans and Asia Minor.
