WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
(From Our Carterton Corres- ■ pendent). *\ * The meeting of the WaiCouncil was held in the Courfty Office, Carterton, on Saturday last, when there were present —Crs Perry (chairman), G. Stevens, T. V. Moore, P. G. Welch, F. Court, D. Douglas, J. Strang, and H. S. Mason. An apology for absence was received for Cr Barrer. The Treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £716 19s 4d. The receipts since the last meeting had been £274 2s Id. The report was adopted. The Chairman moved, and Cr Strang seconded, that the ranger be re-appointed subject to a week's notice terminating his engagement in future. The motion was carried. Mr A.- Moody, Waihakeke, wrote calling the Council's attention to the state of the road leading to his property and offering to metal the same from his place to Mr Court's property if the Council would do the balance of tLe work. Mr Martin wrote concerning the culvert opposite Mr Ellis' property, Ail Moreton Road, and suggested that culvert would be lowered by JBEbout 10 inches. On the motion of * Cr Moore, seconded by CrCourt.it was decided that the water race should be deepened lower down. A communication was received from Mr R. Renall calling attention to the state of the Kokotau Road through the-heavy timber traffic. During the last heavy flood, stated the writer, the river cut a quantity of the bank away near the Kokotau bridge. He suggested that willows should be planted to protect the bridge. On the motion of the Chair- \ man, seconded by Cr Strang, it was I decided that the holes on Kokotau Road should be filled in. The matter of planting wiliows was left, in the hands of the Chairman. Mr L. H. Booth wrote stating that the swing-bridge over the Waingav a ' river had been severely damaged 1 y | the recent gale, and asking that tie j thirds of the residents residing in tl e ' vicinity of the bridge should be expended in repairs. On the motim j of Cr Moore, seconded by Cr Steverp, it was decided to ask the Masterton > County Council to co-operate in the ■fenatter. T The Masterton County Council forwarded a copy of a set of by-laws relating to motor-car traffic. _ The Greytown Borough Council wrote supporting the Courcil's resolution with respect to timber cutting rights on the western slopes of the Tararua ranges. The Engineer was instructed to clean ouWhe drain on Dorset's Road. ' It on the motion of Cr Come, seconded by Cr Moore, that tenders should be called for metalling 25 chains of Hilton Road, at an estimated cost of £2B. Cr Welch reported having arranged with Mr Rayner for obtaining metal for work to be done on the Waihakeke Road.' Or Moore moved, and Cr Strang seconded, that tenders be called for the metalling. i On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Strang, it was decided that tenders be called for j£ metalling Kootau Road. '*Zj It was decided, on the motion of Cr Strang, seconded by Cr Mason, that the water-tables be cleaned out on Admiral Road, and new culverts put in. Accounts amounting to £621 l£s were passed for payment.
