BRITISH POLITICS.
A BY-ELECTION. Received September 27, 4.35 p.m. LONDON, September 28. The by-election for the Kirkdale Division |of Liverpool, rendered vacant through the death of Mr D. Maclver, resulted in the return of Mr Charles McArthur, Unionist, who polled 4,000 votes against Mr John Hill' 3, Labour representative, 3,330. The Liberal Executive were unable to officially support Mr Hill in any of h s Socialist views, but passed a resolution expressing the hope that the Liberal electors would support him. (AX the last election the late Mr Maclver, Unionist, polled 3,749 votes against Mr J. Conlev's, Labourite, 3,157.)
