HEAVY LANDSLIPS.

RAILWAY TRAFFIC INTERRUPTED. The railway traffic between Masterton and Woodville was to a certain extent dislocated, yesterday, owing to a slip which occurred on the line near Mangatainoka. The 7 a.m. train from Woodville to Masterton arrived at the latter station at 3 o'clock, yesterday afternoon, about five hours.late, and the ordinary Wel-lington-Napier mail train was delayed at Masterton for over an hour. When the latter train arrived at the slip, the passengers from the down mail train, which had also been blocked, changed into' the other train, and tie up train came back to Wellington, passing through Master ton about 5.45 p.m- over two and aquarte'- hours late. The passengers in the up train also changed across into the other train. The late train from the North last night ran as usual, the passengers changing into another train a 4; the slip. A large gang uf men are working upon the slip and they expect to have the line clear some time to-day. The passengers who left Masterton by the 6.15 p.m. train cn Wednesday f r Eketa! Una had a veiy unpleasant experience. AU went well until the train reached the tunnel at Mangamahoe, when the engine ran into a big slip that had occurred at the far end cf the tunnel. There were five passengers on board, including one lady, and ail were considerably shaken bj the collision. The force of the impact drove the engine nearly through the slip, and after a little difficulty it was separated from the train, the balance, including the trucks and carriages,remaining in the tunnel. The engine was taken on to Eketahuna, and word was sent to Masterton for assistance. The passengers were imprisoned in the tunnel for six hours until an eng.ine arrived and they reached Masterton again at 3 a.m., yesterday. At a little after 7 a.m. a train left Masterton for the North, and arrived at Pahiatua about mid-day.
