NEGOTIATIONS FOR PEACE BROKEN OFF.

OPERATIONS AGAINST THE MOORS TO BE RESOLED. THE TRIBES' TO BE GIVEN A LESSON. Received September 23, 8.17 a.m. MOROCCO, September 22. The Commander of the French troops, General Drude, has decided to resume operations against the Moors. Some of the tribesmen living nearest to Casablanca recently tried to influence the other tribes in the vicinity to make peace, and threatened to even help the French if their overtures proved unsuccessful. The Chammahi tribes then sent delegates v to General Drude and offered submission on certain conditions. However, negotiations have been broken off by the French General.

The French Prime Minister, M. Clemenceau, states that the tribes nearest Casablanca, where the outbreak against Europeans occurred, favour peace, but that tho3e farther away are still warlike, they imagining tfia': France will be unable to reach them. M. Clemenceau adds:—"They need a lesson, and we shall give it to them."

TRIBES DISPERSED. \ A CAMP BURNED. Received September 23, 11 p.m. MOROCCO, September 23. General Drude has dispersed the tribes at Sidibrahim. twenty kibmetres from Casablanca, and burned the camp. Received September 23, 11 p.m. LONDON September 23. Reports from Spanish sources at Mogador and Mazagon state that the two Sultans are merely acting in collusion with a view to deceiving Europe and pacifying the tribes. Abdel Aziz has agreed that if he predeceases Malai Hafid, the latter shall become.Sultan of Morocco.
